It’s our blog’s second birthday – and you’re invited!

Birthday LOLcatThe Firehead blog turns two years old today – a big step in any digital toddler’s life as we support the work of our big sister Firehead.net, Europe’s leading recruiter of technical communication, web content and IT specialists.

More importantly, it means we get to thank contributors, issue an interesting invitation to readers and reward ourselves with a new birthday LOLcat.

Birthdays are about thanks…

A year ago, we issued a callout for the ‘A-team of guest bloggers to help our UK and European job candidates negotiate the world of tech comms, content strategy and related subjects’. You’ve certainly helped us to do that through our amazing, international Guest Blogger series, in which some of the world’s most renowned comms experts have posted their thoughts and tips.

We’d like to say a GREAT BIG THANKYOU to everyone who has contributed over the last year, particularly those in the global content strategy community, which is still figuring itself out in terms of job roles, job hires and career transitions from other web communication specialisms.

This is also the perfect time to thank the UK and European talent on our Bitesize content strategy team, which is working hard to fill the content strategy gap for clients who often want to test the water (and budget) before buying in or hiring a dedicated content strategist.

Birthdays are about presents…

While your biggest gift to us as Europe-based web recruiters is to sign up as a job candidate or to register as a hiring client, we also wanted to celebrate our blogging birthday with a couple of presents of our own.

Firstly, we will shortly be posting our top posts of the past two years. This is a second chance to see not only on Firehead’s flagship content on job-seeking tips, market trends and conference wisdom, but also to read the writings of some of the world’s leading communications experts who have been kind enough to share their knowledge and expertise here on the blog. Watch this space!

Secondly, we are launching a brand new insight series featuring YOU, our talented readers. We will be talking directly to our community, many of whom are leading practitioners active in the roles we recruit for. We want to go behind the scenes of their job title to find the inside story of what they do. What exactly is involved in being a technnical writer, content strategist or information designer, for example? What do they earn? What is the career progression and mobility? How is their field changing? And many other questions.

Screenshot of Interview postWe’ve already kicked of the series with Interview with an… Information Designer, in which Robert Hempsall talks about his work writing and designing forms and other complex communications for customers. Now we want to talk to more supercool content and comms people in every kind of niche!

That’s where we recruit and that’s why we want to know more about our people. In return, we offer significant exposure on the site of a market leader in European content and comms recruitment. However, the main aim is learn something and to share the knowledge of what different jobs involve.

Birthdays are about YOU…

We would love it if you would be a part of our new ‘Interview with a…’ job title series.

We would love it if you shared via an easy Q&A a bit about yourself so that others – trainees, peers or potential employers – can understand what you do and what the trends are in the fast-changing world of modern web and print communication.

We would love if you got in contact with us today at recruit@staging.firehead.flywheelsites.com. If you know your stuff and are willing to guest-post, please email with a bit of information about yourself and we’ll try to feature you and your work on the Firehead blog in the coming weeks and months.

A birthday wish…

So that’s it for another year. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading the Firehead in 2010 and 2011 and that you’ll continue with us and engage with us on our journey. Don’t forget you can subscribe to our posts via RSS or follow us on Twitter for announcements, job alerts and conversation: @Firehead.net

We’ve come a long way since our first post and look forward to speaking with more of you over the next year.

Thanks again,

From all at Firehead!
