Here are two technical communication surveys for you to have your say on the world of technical authors, editors and communicators in 2018. But be quick: one ends today.

The Census of Technical Communicators survey ends on 20 August 2018 and is for Society for Technical Communication (STC) members only. It is being carried out by researchers from Concordia University in Montreal, in partnership with the STC and sponsored by WebWorks.

This techcomm study explores:
  • Your educational and professional backgrounds.
  • Your current jobs, including job titles, characteristics of the organisations in which you work, reporting relationships, types of work projects, and tools and processes used in your work.
  • Your professional development.
  • Your satisfaction with careers in technical communication and current positions.
  • Your opinions and concerns about the future state of technical communication.
  • Your career plans for the next five years.

It takes 20-30 minutes to complete and there is an incentive of a prize draw for one of 120 $10 Amazon gift cards (more info here). The results will be published in Intercom, the official magazine of STC.

Meanwhile, the annual Technical Communication Industry Benchmarking Survey, conducted by The Content Wrangler, is also asking for your views on the challenges of managing technical documentation team, as well as issues around the creation, management, translation and delivery of technical communication content.
This techcomm survey also aims to identify useful tools, standards and technologies used in modern technical documentation departments, and to provide a snapshot of the current state of the industry to practitioners, managers, and employers.

The survey takes 10 minutes to complete and most questions are multiple choice. Provide a valid email address and you will receive a free summary report detailing the findings later this year.
