Create and manage your own templates to author and publish DITA content with Adobe® FrameMaker® 2019 Release in XML mode.
This is a two-day introduction course designed for users of Adobe FrameMaker, who want to set up structured templates, tailored to business needs, to author and publish DITA content.
What you’ll learn
This course will give you the skills to understand the concepts of designing a structured template for DITA content in Adobe FrameMaker. You will learn how FrameMaker opens an XML file, and what components are needed to display the content inside the software in the WYSIWYG view. You will also learn to configure them and to design your own templates for authoring and publishing.
How you learn
This Adobe FrameMaker training course includes live classroom training, either on-site at your location, or online via Adobe® Connect™. The course includes live demonstrations, explanations and activities to help you use FrameMaker as you learn.
You’ll also receive course materials that you can reference during the two-day training. These learning materials are yours to keep and refer to after you’ve completed the course.
This is a two-day introductory course, aimed at technical authors who are familiar with DITA and XML but may be new users of Adobe FrameMaker.
As a prerequisite, we recommend that participants have completed the FrameMaker 2019 for technical authors course, or have suitable experience before enrolling on this course.
For DITA and XML training, we also offer a DITA Fundamentals e-learning course.
Day 1: How FrameMaker manages structured authoring and publishing
Firstly, you will learn how to open an XML file in FrameMaker, about the components of a structured application and what can be done with each of these components.
We will then cover Element Document Definition (EDD), its content and what you can modify in the default EDD to define your formatting.
Day 2: How to set up structured templates for authoring and publishing
Next we discover how the structure template implements the EDD and what can be done to improve the master pages appearance, and the formatting of paragraphs and objects.
You will also learn to define all the components of a publication – front page, table of contents, index – for PDF output, and how to customise the skins of HTML5 publication.
