Market trend: connected data and data-driven strategies

Being more than a little data-obsessed, we were very interested to follow Connected Data London earlier this month. Now in its fourth year, Connected Data LDN is a conference for those who use “the relationships, meaning and context in data to achieve great things”.

Connected data is what happens when you take your data out of different business function silos (sales, operations, marketing, demographics, customer service, relevant external data) and connect it up. How might this change how your business works? How might deeper data-driven knowledge of your customers change or personalise how you engage with them?

“With knowledge graphs, machine learning and AI, linked data and semantic technology and graph databases are redefining how data works. Data is redefining how everything works,” said conference organisers. “Connected Data London is the go-to event for the latest developments in these key technologies.”

Connected Data LDN has been posting its speaker presentations up this week. For example, you can see how a data-driven organisation such as JP Morgan approaches its data governance in information architect Aftab Iqbal’s talk.

Or check out CTO Sebastian Müller’s presentation, which offers some simple options for how connected data can be visualised.

The semantic web, ontologies and taxonomies are a big focus area for Firehead, particularly their applications in the technical communication field. Ontology project lead Simon Jupp has a useful set of slides looking at ontology services for the biomedical sciences. He says that ontologies and semantic web technologies play an important role in making data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable).

Or perhaps graph databases, data quality, structured data, knowledge graphs or recommendation systems are more your area of interest.

See the full list on their Slideshare.

Jobs in connected data

As recruiters and trainers, we at Firehead are very aware that the future of work will look very different as these technologies become mainstream. We advise digital communicators to keep abreast of what is happening in the market through training courses and attending relevant conferences. Check out our annual bumper conference calendar – many of these offer access to talks through virtual tickets or post presentations online after the event.

Shortly we will also be launching a series of value-added services for clients in the areas of AI, automated data and visual communication. Our Consultancy page has the full range of current options.
