What you will and won’t get from a content strategy course

Our content strategy overview course author, Hilary Marsh, explains what you can and cannot expect from taking a content strategy course.

In our new Content Strategy Overview course, you will get a solid introduction to the parts and pieces of what go into creating a smart, sustainable content strategy. You will learn what all the pieces are, and the course contains lots of examples and tools created for various clients over the years.

You may take the course because you want to do content strategy, or you may take the course in order to work with a content strategist or advocate for adding one to a team.

However, by the end of the course, you will not yet be an experienced content strategist.

Every organization faces different content challenges because of what they do, who their customers are, and their own internal culture – as well as their scale and budget. Therefore, each organization’s content strategy needs to be unique, using content to help them meet their business goals by helping their audiences reach their goals. While the building blocks of content strategy are the same or similar, they’re never created in exactly the same way from one organization to the next.

After taking the course, you will assemble the pieces and parts into your own unique solutions to help organizations solve their content challenges.

In a recent blog post, I assert that content strategy is much more than deliverables alone. The materials you create for an organization documenting their decisions and future journeys are not the true value of the content strategy work. Rather, the value of content strategy comes to fruition through the conversations and collaboration that happen along the way.

Similarly, your own learning will allow you to draw on the frameworks the course provides and put them into practice over time. I am eager to see where you go with the course material!

If you want to learn more about content strategy principles and how you can use them in your organization, our new course by Hilary Marsh, expert content strategist, will give you all of the foundations you need to get going.
