Part 3 of 4
Learning Programmes and Using Online Training Resources
Engaging learner programmes are fundamental to closing company skill gaps, boosting employee productivity, and retaining a workforce, whether employees, freelancers, or contractors. This learning culture will need to be as flexible and adaptive as the workforce itself, engaging with new training, tactics, and initiatives.
Strong corporate learning cultures embrace partnerships, strategic alliances, and synergies that provide the broadest training resources for the tightest of budgets. Businesses will need to invest in learning to realise the transformative effects and efficiencies offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and now demanded by the Fifth Industrial Revolution.
But as yet, there are few companies that have comprehensive in-house training modules for broad-based skills relating to:
- DITA concepts
- Content operations
- Keywording
- Plain Language
- Content strategy
- Prompt crafting
- User onboarding content
- Technical communication
- Ethical use of AI
- Structured authoring
- Content design
Fewer still recognise the importance of fostering an environment where different social staff styles: introverts, extroverts, business ‘drivers’ and ‘expressives’, can work in harmony, and integrate themselves recognising the strengths and merits of each ‘human asset class’. This will be a fundamental ‘skillset’ and ‘tolerance knowledge’ to be imparted to teams working remotely and in culturally diverse, cross-border environments.
In this respect, there is a clear case for buying in learning from ‘neutral’ training course providers free from corporate culture, habits, and biases, and a compelling argument for using external training expertise that can take a holistic view to industry change.
Additionally, training is needed to help technical communicators analyse their audiences so they can tailor both their input on the technicial side and their output on the end-user side.
