Part 3 in a series of 5

In this five-part series, Firehead takes a look at the impacts that AI transformation is having on technical communication teams – what the trends are, and how they effect technical communicators’ jobs

Fit Tech Teams into the Right Environment

The workplace has changed irrevocably since the Covid pandemic, and there is energetic debate on the pros and cons of a full-time in-office presence vs hybrid models and fully remote working. While the corporate office or headquarters remains an environment for social bonding, the sharing of ideas, and corporate culture exchange, today’s workers value autonomy and flexibility as part of their well being.

Leaders need to ask if poor remote work performance or poor hybrid work performance is a location problem or a management problem.

Technical communicators are a versatile demographic who are particularly adept at hybrid working models, with an ability to focus and deep dive into the complexities of technical language and coding in multiple environments. But management needs to interact at the personal level to determine just what environment that is; there is no one-stop shop for everyone, but this adoption of a holistic ‘people-first’ mindset will be the key to retaining staff.

The flexibility of remote work allows for greater autonomy and well being, which today’s workers highly prize.

As a result, the Firehead Training Academy’s growing portfolio of training courses is becoming an indispensable resource for employers wishing to offer their staff a comprehensive range of ongoing upskilling programmes.

This has a two-fold benefit: demonstrating to workers that the business is investing in their future while providing them with wider skills that can be called upon as necessary, and for the employee, boosting their feeling of inclusion while materially enhancing their CVs.

The takewaway: While rapid technological change is proving a challenge, thankfully, technology is also making learning and accessing upskilling courses more accessible. It’s democratising a process that was previously confined to high-level executives and spotlighted staff, at the expense of support teams, contractors and freelancers.

Today, training is digital, so everyone can access top-quality trainers and courses on demand from anywhere.
