After lots of Firehead announcements in our last post, we’re back checking out stories of interest to our readers in techcomm, content strategy and the wider field of digital communications. And we’ve just spotted that Technical Communication UK, the ISTC annual conference that we attended in September in Nottingham, England, has posted up links to the slides and presentations.
The theme for 2017 was ‘Staying on topic – Topic-based authoring, skills and methodologies’. Presentations included talks on plain language, APIs, user experience, video creation, migration to a topic-based paradigm, Industry 4.0 and much more.
Check out the TCUK17 presentations list here.
TCUK is a fun event with plenty of networking opportunities and a chance for us at Firehead to catch up with our techcomm friends (we have decades of industry experience in this area).
Firehead CEO, CJ Walker, was also a TCUK conference co-organiser this year, organising the three keynote speakers. She also helped run the Adobe TechComm booth and attended the annual general board meeting for the ISTC Council as their International Manager.
She said: “This year’s conference was as hospitable and informative as ever. The big topic this year was Information 4.0 generally and chatbots and AI more specifically. These new trends are going to be big drivers in the digital communication market and I was delighted to see so much information being delivered to the people who will be developing it in advance of hiring trends.”
The dates for TCUK 2018 are the 25-27 September 2018. We highly recommend attending this event if you work in techcomm. It is for everyone involved in writing, editing, illustrating, delivering and publishing technical information, and offers three days of intensive learning, with social activities for networking and also a vendor exhibition.
If you’d like to talk more about techcomm, training and recruitment, please do get in touch. At Firehead we find the best technical communicators for our clients and are always on the lookout for talented candidates in the field.
