Communicating clearly with your customers or simplifying complex information so that others can easily understand is a multifaceted skill – one that content professionals and technical communicators trade in. But often there is a key missing element: the ability to put information into plain English.

Which is why we are proud to announce a brand new, flexible, online course offered through Firehead in ‘How to write in plain language’.

More than 9,000 delegates from seven countries have already benefited from this tried-and-tested training, which is run by two of the best and most experienced plain language tutors working today. Our plain language trainers understand the difference between an over-simplistic readability tools and a truly strategic approach that helps customers to make more informed decisions.

The training is designed to be flexible so you can choose from the many module options to suit your topic needs or skill levels – from beginner to advanced.

You can, for example, select the modules in core skills if you’re looking to learn the basics of plain language. If you already have core plain language skills, you can build a course out of strategic or specialist options, such as:

  • How to build support for plain language in a large organisation
  • Writing for translation
  • Inclusive language
  • Repurposing academic publications into articles for general readership
  • How to deal with legal jargon or reduce legalese

There are many more options to enable the best learning experience for you or your team.

The value of writing in plain language cannot be understated. For a business it helps to build trust and loyalty with your customers – and to save time and money. For a writer or editor or anyone involved in professional communications, it brings new skills and career opportunities.

For the full details, visit our course page: How to write in plain language.

The course is delivered live online and you can design your own training. Simply choose the five modules that you want – and the tutors will create a seven-hour plain language training programme for you.

Up to five delegates can join each course. As you pay per course and not per person, the most cost-efficient option is to take up all five places and use it as team training.

Please do get in touch via the course page if you have further questions or want to book your training.
