As the year winds down, we’re looking back over an exciting time of growth here at Firehead. Here’s our 2018 in review…
The year started off with a bang thanks to a trip to Cape Town, South Africa with the University of Strasbourg. We accompanied their TCLoc (Technical Communication and Localisation) and CAWEB (Website Creation, Multimedia and Localisation) students to visit local companies. We met with industry experts to discuss their needs and the potential for academic/professional crossover in areas such as digital content and marketing, localisation technology, plain language, chatbot development and more.
In March we moved over to a fully responsive website with a fresh new design and the ability to connect across multiple channels. We outlined how we were changing as a business and moving into new areas. Hint, that’s why our logo now says Recruitment | Training | Consulting.
We’ve added a raft of new courses to our Training offer. Run by some of the best trainers in their industry, check out the latest additions:

- Philippe Zingoni’s Adobe FrameMaker 2019 training for technical authors, and three other FrameMaker course options.

We’re also working with several European universities to develop and deepen their curricula to prepare their students for the new challenges of machine-human content development. We’re calling this “a new information delivery model for modern contexts, making both legacy and new content machine-readable data for human consumption”. (As you can see, we’re in dire need of a sexier description.)

Year of GDPR!
Of course, 2018 will also be remembered as the year of the GDPR and a massive update of EU data privacy regulations. We’ve worked hard on our GDPR compliance this year, not just for us, but helping clients understand the new regulation as well. It took a lot of time but we think the effort was worth it because we agree with the new data privacy measures and hope to see more control of individuals’ rights. But to the better stuff – the holidays! We’re enjoying the fêtes here in our HQ in the French Alps and our other bases in the UK and USA. It’s very cozy, especially after a long year that was super-charged. We hope you’re enjoying your holidays as well. Let’s drink a toast to Christmas and to lots more digital communication in the New Year!
